Immersive stays with the Karen, one of the mountain tribes of northern Thailand, are often offered in very basic accommodations. Here, you’ll experience this unique opportunity while enjoying rarely offered comfort: a charming guesthouse with comfortable beds and private bathrooms, located on the hilltops where the nights are refreshingly cool.
Your adventure begins with departure from Chiang Mai (hotel, airport, or train station). You will be driven to a Karen village nestled about 70 km away, deep in the mountains. Welcomed by Pen, a local villager and attentive host, you'll settle in before enjoying a simple, traditional meal overlooking the rice fields.
Whether you choose a 2-day or 3-day stay (we highly recommend 3 days), each moment will offer an opportunity to take part in daily village life:
You can also enjoy a unique encounter with semi-wild elephants and go on a jungle walk alongside them, ending with a swim under a waterfall in the heart of the forest. This stay can also be arranged without the elephant portion.
Your Karen host will speak good English.
